Field Trip to the Dental Office of Dr. Suzanne Berger in Agoura Hills
While in the waiting room, we all
watch a film on how to take care of our teeth, including brushing &
flossing, eating healthy, & visiting the dentist. We learn
that the best way to brush our teeth is in small circles at an angle
towards the gums, as opposed to straight across the teeth.
Dr. Suzie & Dr. Robyn teach
us which foods are healthy & which foods the sugar monster
loves. We find out that even some healthy foods (like bread &
crackers) can cause cavities. It's best to combine them with
something that has a little fat like peanut butter, to coat &
protect the teeth.
Kassidy gets to pretend to be a
dentist with Nathan as her patient...Peter and Henry get to try on a
shark patient.
Sydney &
Garrett........David & Michael have fun using dentist tools.

Our Field Trip to McDonald's
Unfortunately, it was the first day of rain. But we walked to the
nearby McDonald's two-by-two with our umbrellas!
We find tables and they start working on their workbooks.
We take a tour in groups of 10 led by the McDonald's manager, Anna.
Anna shows us how french fries are dispensed into a frying
basket.
We even get to go in the walk-in refrigerator at 0 degrees, and the
freezer at -38 degrees!
Sydney expresses how cold it is in the freezer!
Then, we go to the supply room; here's where their various drinks get
dispensed, such as Mr. Pib, Sprite, Diet Coke, and HiC Orange drink.
Then, she takes us to their most popular drink -- a 75 gallon tank of
Coke!
After the tour, they finally get to eat their Happy Meals!
Here's a group shot.
We leave McDonald's with a free
cookie and head back to school in the rain!

First Field Trip to the
California Science Center and IMAX Theater
Getting on the bus for our first field trip. All three 1st grade
classrooms (60 kids) and 12 adults get on one bus, sitting three to a
bench seat.
Everyone has a book to keep themselves busy during the ride.
Here's a group shot of us. The parents are: Christine
(Emily, Jennifer (Sydney), Susan (Garrett), Karine (Peter) Jessika
(Jacob), and Catherine & John (Nathan).
The parents took the kids in groups of 3 - 4 and explored through the
museum.
We mainly stayed on the 2nd floor, which had the World of Life exhibit.
Kipp & my group walked through the darkened life tunnel that talked
about the 5 life processes and homeostasis. We saw what an
elephant's heart looked like and saw how much blood is in it. We
went to the Surgery Theater and stood over a patient having open-chest
surgery. We saw up-close how we develop from a single human cell;
we saw 11 preserved human embryos and fetuses. Then we watched a
show with Tess, a 50-foot body sumulator, where we learned about
homeostasis - how organs work together to keep our body in balance.
Then we all went to the IMAX Theatre. Our group was Caitlin,
Sydney, Calvin & Aneesh.
Here's a photo of us with our 3D glasses; we watched DEEP SEA, which
took us on a magical journey
underwater. It was amazing! It was as if we were actually
deep sea diving under water. It looked so real, some of the kids
wanted to take their 3D glasses off & plug their ears!
To see a little bit of what we saw, go to www.imax.com/deepsea/
Then, we all at our lunches at the picnic tables.
After lunch, all the kids got to play & run around in the Rose
Garden. The Rose Garden is approximately 7 acres in size and has
more than 10,000 rose bushes of over 100 varieties.
All the kids got to run around and play before heading back on the bus
to school.
